What happens to glass once you have dropped it into your recycle bin?

It all starts with you and I recycling our glass waste. Follow the steps below to find out where your glass waste goes:

The process of glass recycling in the UK

G
Step 1 | SORTING GLASS WASTE

Glass jars and bottles are separated from other recyclables and waste. Non glass items are removed by using magnets and air suction.

G
Step 2 | GLASS IS CRUSHED

The glass is then colour sorted using lasers and crushed into small pieces which is called cullet.

G
Step 3 | melted and ingredients added

The cullet is melted in a furnace of over 1500 degrees celcius and key ingredients are added.

G
Step 4 | LIQUID GLASS DIVIDED

Liquid glass is then divided into gobs which can be blown or pressed into new bottles or jars.

At The Waste Company we believe in all things green! Join us and put your glass through the recycling process. You will be making a long-term difference to our environment:
